How to Clean Your Oven Like a Professional

Why Ovens Get So Dirty

Every time food drips, splatters, or overflows in the oven, it bakes onto the surface at high heat and becomes increasingly difficult to remove. Most people avoid the task until the buildup is significant, which makes it harder and more discouraging each time. The professional approach is to use the right products and give them time to work rather than relying on scrubbing force.

The Baking Soda Method (Best for Regular Maintenance)

Mix half a cup of baking soda with enough water to form a spreadable paste. Remove the oven racks and coat every interior surface with the paste, avoiding the heating elements. Let it sit overnight — at least eight hours. The next day, wipe away the paste and loosened grime with a damp cloth. Spray white vinegar on any remaining residue, which will react with the baking soda and lift the last bits. Wipe clean.

For Heavy Buildup: Commercial Oven Cleaner

Easy Off fume-free oven cleaner is the product the Estrellas team uses on deep cleaning visits when baking soda alone is insufficient. Apply it to a cold oven, close the door, and let it work for the time specified on the label (usually one to two hours for the fume-free version). The cleaner dissolves baked-on grease chemically, so very little scrubbing is needed. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and rinse thoroughly.

The Oven Racks

Place the racks in a bathtub or large utility sink with hot water and a generous amount of dish soap. Let them soak for at least two hours. Most of the buildup will wipe off easily after soaking. For stubborn spots, a paste of Barkeeper’s Friend and water scrubbed with a non-abrasive pad works very well.

The Glass Door

The gap between the inner and outer panes of the oven door is where most people give up. Sliding a long flexible brush or a folded damp paper towel on a thin tool through the vents at the bottom of the door can reach the inner surface. It takes patience but makes a significant visual difference.

If oven cleaning is part of a larger deep clean, Estrellas Deep Cleaning handles it as part of the full kitchen package in Midland, Odessa, and San Antonio.
